About the Book:
Survanta, recently married, accompanies her husband Malhari to the sugar-cane farm. While working with him, she witnesses the atrocities committed by the contractor. Soon, the contractor casts his evil eye on her, leading to further exploitation. Distressed by this, Survanta worries about the safety of her family and unborn children. Tejram, the young jamindar, attempts to manipulate her, and in an effort to escape exploitation, she agrees to fulfill his wishes. In return, he allows her to work on his farm alongside Malhari.
However, Survanta is torn with guilt, fearing what might happen if Malhari discovers her secret. Eventually, everything unravels, and Survanta's dreams are shattered. This novel casts a light on the grim reality faced by sugar-cane workers, leaving readers in a state of despair.
