Genre: Science Fiction for Children
Publisher: Boi Bondhu

About the Author:
Rebati Goswami, born on July 31, 1936, in Amalsadarpur, Nadia district (now in Bangladesh), spent his childhood in Amalsadarpur High English School, Krishnanagar Collegiate School, and Park Institution in Kolkata. He graduated in science from Scottish Church College. Goswami worked for the Indian government in the Overseas Communication Service and later retired from the Central Government's foreign communications department. Primarily a writer for children, he wrote his first novel "Arumituder Katha" which was first serialized in the Bengali children's magazine 'Sondesh' in 1969. His books have been widely recognized, and his work in children's literature has earned him several prestigious awards, including the Vidyasagar Award from the West Bengal Government for his lifetime contribution.

Description of the Book:

  • Plot: This novel is not a typical space adventure. It follows the journey of Dr. Satyaki Som's two disciples — Pragyan and Subhadra — symbolizing the mind and heart of humanity. Their eternal conflict, yet complementary nature, unfolds in a distant future, light-years away from Earth. The story subtly mirrors the societal issues of today, addressing the inequalities and injustices without the need for slogans.

  • Unique Perspective: Though written for children, the novel offers valuable insights for adults as well, allowing them to rediscover their lost childhood.

  • Themes: The novel transcends the usual scientific and adventurous themes to speak about human experiences, the world, and the timeless theme of love.

  • Historical Context: Rebati Goswami's return to writing after almost two decades, during the challenging times of 2020, brought to life this single science fiction novel, which is now a testament to his enduring literary legacy.
