About The Book:
Ranangan is a gripping historical play written by renowned Marathi author Shri Vishwas Patil. The play is based on the monumental Third Battle of Panipat, which took place on January 14, 1761, between the Marathas and the Afghan emperor Ahmad Shah Abdali. Set in the backdrop of the 18th century, the battle occurred near Delhi in the village of Panipat.
The story delves into the historical context of the battle, focusing on the agreement between the Marathas and the Mughals, known as the Ahmadiya Karaar (Ahmadiya Agreement). According to this pact, the Marathas were to defend the Mughals whenever they were in danger. When Ahmad Shah Abdali, the Afghan emperor, planned to attack the Mughals and capture Delhi, the Marathas, along with 1 lakh soldiers, marched towards Delhi to defend the empire.
Despite the Marathas losing the battle, they dealt a severe blow to Abdali, who was forced to escape from India. The aftermath of this battle led to a lasting impact: the Afghan forces never dared to invade India again, marking a significant turning point in Indian history.
Patil's narrative brings to life the strategic, emotional, and historical significance of this great battle, highlighting both the sacrifices and the indomitable spirit of the Maratha warriors.
