About the Book

Diasporic Writing: Exploring Home, Nation, and Identity brings together 31 insightful essays by both Indian and international scholars, addressing the complexities and nuances of diasporic literature. Over the past decade, writers from the Indian diaspora have become central to discussions in cultural studies, with their works critically engaging with themes like identity, nostalgia, and the redefinition of home and nation.

The collection is a blend of creative writing and scholarly analysis, with contributions that include personal narratives from writers like Ashis Gupta and Uma Parameswaran, who reflect on their migration experiences. The volume also examines the theoretical perspectives that define diaspora literature, with scholars like Gurbhagat Singh and David Stouck exploring postcolonial critiques, reading theories, and the reception of diaspora works.

Diasporic Writing discusses notable writers such as Bharati Mukherjee, Kamala Markandaya, Rohinton Mistry, M.G. Vassanji, and Neil Bissoondath, as well as works from Sri Lankan authors Michael Ondaatje and Shyam Selvadurai. The book features essays on fiction, poetry, memoirs, and drama, offering a rich and diverse overview of diaspora literature. An interview with Ashis Gupta further enriches this collection.

This volume is an essential read for those interested in postcolonial studies, Indian diaspora literature, and cultural studies, offering fresh perspectives on the intersection of identity, migration, and the evolving nature of belonging.
