About the Book
Ageing is a natural, continuous biological process that begins at birth and ends at death. While it is inevitable and irreversible, the rate at which individuals age can vary significantly due to genetic factors, environmental influences, and personal lifestyle choices. Traditionally, in Indian society, the elderly enjoyed high social standing and respect within families and communities. However, modernization has led to a shift in values, leaving many senior citizens marginalized, dependent, and considered non-productive.
This book addresses the critical physical and psychological challenges faced by the elderly in today’s changing social landscape. It highlights the urgent need for thoughtful interventions and practical solutions to improve their quality of life.
Compiled by experts across multiple disciplines of Home Science, this volume includes contributed research articles that provide valuable insights into the experiences and needs of the ageing population. It serves as a comprehensive resource for scholars, caregivers, social organizations, and policymakers involved in elderly care and welfare.
