About the Book:

This book explores the evolving landscape of higher education in India, analyzing the challenges posed by privatization, globalization, and financial constraints in the public sector. The work critically examines the structural issues, financial governance, and the capabilities required by both students and educators to ensure the future growth and relevance of higher education institutions.

The book is divided into three sections:

  • Part I: Structure discusses the future direction of university structures, the rise of private universities, and the influence of world rankings on Indian institutions.

  • Part II: Finances focuses on the financing mechanisms of higher education, providing insights into public expenditure, household expenditure on education, and the implications of changing financial policies.

  • Part III: Capabilities and Others addresses the capabilities that students and teachers need in the modern educational environment, as well as broader issues such as inclusion and accessibility for students with disabilities.

The book offers an interdisciplinary perspective on the challenges facing public higher education in India and presents a thoughtful analysis on how to address these challenges. It is an invaluable resource for policy makers, educators, and researchers interested in the governance, financing, and teaching of higher education in India.
