About the Book
This unique volume contains a modern Sanskrit translation of eight chapters from the First Part of Cervantes's monumental Don Quijote, accompanied by a reprint of the English translation by Charles Jarvis and an audio recording of the Sanskrit text by Shrikant Bahulkar.
The work will appeal to specialists in Sanskrit philology, modern Sanskrit studies, manuscriptology, history of Indology, Romance languages, literature, and cultural studies. The Sanskrit text is typeset with a historically reconstructed Nagari typeface, designed by August Wilhelm von Schlegel, and edited based on a unique manuscript written in Kashmir in the winter of 1936/37, preserved at the Houghton Library of Harvard University.
This book also includes an overview of the reception of Cervantes's classic in India and a study of the history of the Sanskrit translation of Don Quijote, including the unpublished Kashmiri rendering.
