About the Author:
Professor A.K. Bhattacharyya is a distinguished scholar and expert in Jaina and Buddhist Iconography. He began his career as a Research Fellow at the Royal Asiatic Society of Bengal on a project related to Jaina Iconography. His work spans multiple prestigious roles, including being a lecturer at the School of Archaeology, Archaeological Survey of India, Delhi, and serving as Keeper of the Art Department at the National Museum in New Delhi.

Professor Bhattacharyya's extensive research on Jaina antiquities in the museum collections earned him significant recognition, including invitations to lecture on Jaina Iconography at the Musee Guimet in Paris and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. He was awarded the PRS of Calcutta University for his work on Jaina Iconography and later appointed as Head of the Museum's Branch at the Archaeological Survey of India. He also served as the Director of the Indian Museum in Calcutta, overseeing its vast collection of Jaina antiquities.

His research contributions have been published in numerous journals and monographs, both in India and internationally. The prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru Fellowship is among his many honors, and his lectures on Jaina iconography have earned him recognition and respect worldwide.
