About the Book:
Globalization and Employment in India evaluates the dynamic changes in the Indian economy and employment structures in the post-reform period, focusing on the shift from traditional agriculture and industry to the burgeoning services sector. With globalization affecting national economies, this book critically examines the impact on India’s employment landscape, comparing sectors across the country, with a special emphasis on Gujarat, one of India’s more developed states.

The volume explores key aspects such as rural transformation, social security, the employability of the workforce, and the survival of marginalized laboring poor. The effects of major developments like the retail boom, Special Economic Zones (SEZs), and government social security schemes such as the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) are also discussed. The book delves into the consequences of these changes, including migration patterns and their effects on society and culture.

The contributors, including experts like Dinkar Nayak, Akash Kumra, and Jeemol Unni, offer diverse perspectives on employment, labor, and migration within India’s evolving economy, providing invaluable insights for researchers, policymakers, and students alike.
