About the Book
In the era of post-liberalization, privatization, and globalization (LPG), issues surrounding business ethics and corporate social responsibility (CSR) have gained prominence, influencing the Indian economy, society, and polity. This book seeks to explore the emergence of the new market dynamics in India, where the structure and functioning of markets have evolved significantly since globalization's arrival. Alongside these changes, new norms, regulations, and actors have emerged, creating a completely new work culture.
The study highlights the rise of a new middle class as an offshoot of globalization, yet it also notes the lack of awareness among consumers and employees in shopping malls regarding business ethics and CSR. A critical issue identified is the absence of transparency in how malls operate. Pricing strategies and profit-making processes remain secretive, with employees functioning as mere cogs in the machine, resulting in a disconnect between them and their creative potential. This alienation of staff, away from their creative selves, is an area that needs further exploration.
This book delves into the significance of business ethics and CSR as guiding principles in business transactions. It also calls for deeper research into how these concepts, along with transparency, play a role in the organized retail trade in India.
