About the Book
This book explores the lives and legacies of two towering figures in Indian history—Vinoba Bhave and Samrat Ashoka—whose contributions have profoundly shaped the spiritual and political landscape of India.
Vinoba Bhave (11 September 1895 – 15 December 1982) was born in Gagoji, Maharashtra, into a family influenced by both rationalism and spirituality. A disciple of Mahatma Gandhi, Vinoba is best remembered for his pioneering Bhoodan Movement, advocating for voluntary land redistribution and social equality. His deep connection to the Bhagavad Gita inspired his lifelong commitment to selfless service and non-violence.
Samrat Ashoka (268–232 BCE), also known as Ashoka the Great, was one of the most powerful and influential rulers of ancient India. He expanded the Mauryan Empire to its greatest extent but later renounced violence after witnessing the horrors of war during the Kalinga War. Ashoka's conversion to Buddhism and his promotion of Dhamma (moral law) left a lasting legacy in India and across the world, promoting peace, tolerance, and social welfare.
This book provides a deep and engaging narrative of these two extraordinary men, exploring their journeys, philosophies, and the enduring impact of their work on modern-day India.
