Dr. G.S. Khwaja (Khwaja Ghulamus Syedain), born in 1956, is a renowned scholar specializing in Arabic and Persian Epigraphy, Medieval Numismatics, Islamic Calligraphy, and Architecture. Trained under the late Dr. ZA Desai, he holds postgraduate degrees in both Arabic and Persian Literature, as well as a Ph.D. in Hadith Literature from Nagpur University. Additionally, Dr. Khwaja earned an Advanced Diploma in Mass Media from JNU, New Delhi.
Dr. Khwaja’s career began as a broadcaster with All India Radio and later as a journalist for an English newspaper. He is also a skilled calligrapher. He joined the Archaeological Survey of India in 1985 and now leads the Epigraphy Branch for Arabic and Persian Inscriptions in Nagpur. He is an esteemed member of the Board of Studies and Faculty at the Institute of Archaeology, Delhi, where he specializes in Historical Archaeology and Epigraphy.
An accomplished academic, Dr. Khwaja has contributed numerous research articles on epigraphy and numismatics to both national and international journals and seminars. He is a member of the editorial board for the Puramanthana periodical on archaeological discoveries.
His published works include several influential books such as Archaeological Glimpses of Indian Culture (1995), Diwan-i-Husain- Deccan Anthology (1998), Achaipur Tarikh aur Thaqafat (2001), Mashaheer-i-Berar-Biographies (2005), and Akbar ke Ahdmein Farsi Tarikh Nawisi - Persian Historiography (2009).
Dr. Khwaja has also participated in global forums, including a visit to Syria under UNESCO's cultural exchange program in 2005 and involvement in the World Heritage Society's Workshop on the Conservation of Timurid Monuments in 2009.
