About the Author:
Dr. K.M. Suresh, born in 1952, is a prominent figure in the field of archaeology and museology. He retired as the Director of the Museum at Kannada University, Hampi, Karnataka, after a distinguished career. Dr. Suresh holds an M.A. from Karnataka University, a P.G. Diploma in Archaeology from the Institute of Archaeology, Archaeological Survey of India, and a Ph.D. in “Sculptural Art of Hampi” from Utkala University, Bhubaneswar.
Dr. Suresh's career in archaeology spans from 1976 to 1996, during which he worked in various capacities with the Archaeological Survey of India at museums in Bijapur, Hampi, Aihole, Badami (Karnataka), and Khajuraho (Madhya Pradesh). He has contributed extensively to fieldwork and excavation efforts, particularly with Excavations Branch IV of the Archaeological Survey of India in Orissa.
With more than 18 published books, Dr. Suresh is a leading authority on sculptures, temples, and iconography, particularly from Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh. Some of his notable works include Sculptural Art of Hampi, Saivite Sculptures of Khajuraho, The Iconography of Vishnu from Khajuraho, Temples of Karnataka Vol. I & II, and Encyclopedia of Indian Architecture (Volumes I-IV).
Dr. Suresh is actively involved in academic and scholarly pursuits, guiding Ph.D. and M.Phil. scholars at Kannada University, Hampi, and serving as an examiner and expert committee member for various academic institutions. His expertise extends to museology, conservation, and archaeology.
