About the Book
Connecting Anthropology and Health explores the vital intersection between anthropology and health, focusing on how anthropological methods can contribute to the understanding and improvement of public health. This volume highlights various ways in which the cultural and social context of human behavior influences health, alongside an examination of how anthropology can influence public health policy development.
Drawing on meticulous fieldwork and research, the contributors to this book employ anthropological methods and interpretative analysis to provide a comprehensive look at how the construction of health meanings intersects with biomedical causality and rationality. Each chapter reflects a different aspect of health, from the anthropo-medical study of salt workers to exploring sex variations in blood pressure, and from reproductive health concerns to the social determinants of lifestyle diseases.
Key Topics Include:
-
Blood Pressure and Occupational Hazards: An Anthropo-Medical Study Among Salt Workers of Tamil Nadu
