Dr. Siddharth Yeshwant Wakankar, born in 1947, received his education in Mumbai. During his M.A. (1969) at Bombay University, he was awarded the Shridhar Ramakrishna Bhandarkar Prize for his proficiency in Sanskrit Grammar. Throughout his career, he has taught Sanskrit, Ardhamāgadhi, Ancient Indian History and Culture, and Middle Indo-Aryan Languages and Linguistics in various colleges affiliated with the Universities of Pune and Mumbai, as well as the M.S. University of Baroda (1982-84). Dr. Wakankar's English translation (1971) of the Allegorical Apabhramśa work, Mayanaparājayacariu of Harideva, has earned him credit. Currently, he is working on five other critical editions. He was elected as the Sectional President for two consecutive sessions of the All Indian Oriental Conference and has been invited to deliver lectures in many universities, research institutes, museums, colleges, libraries, etc. Dr. Wakankar received the International Ramakrishna Sanskrit Award in 2001 from the Canadian World Education Foundation, Ontario, Canada, for his outstanding and distinguished contributions to Sanskrit research and training. He has traveled extensively in India and Germany and has attended 6 international, 20 national, and 20 state-level seminars/conferences. At present, he holds the position of Deputy Director at the Oriental Institute, which is affiliated with the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda and is world-renowned.
