Author's Bio
Satyajit Ray (সত্যজিৎ রায়) was born on May 2, 1921, in North Kolkata, India, to Sukumar Ray and Suprabha Ray. He is widely recognized as one of the greatest filmmakers of the 20th century. Along with his illustrious career in film, Ray was also an accomplished writer, illustrator, and editor. He made his literary debut in 1941 with his English story Abstraction, followed by numerous works in Bengali.
Ray’s first book in the children's literature genre, Professor Shanku (1965), won the Sahitya Akademi Award, and he later created the iconic detective series Feluda. His writing was always rich in imagination and insight, addressing universal themes through the lens of Bengali culture.
Ray's accolades include the Bharat Ratna, Legion of Honour (France), the Golden Lion (Venice), and a special Oscar for lifetime achievement. His contributions to literature, film, and storytelling remain unparalleled.
