Book Description:
This book presents an alternative cultural history of Bengali theater, moving beyond conventional chronological narratives. It explores the influence of social, economic, and political forces—such as class divisions, religious sentiments, gender inequality, financial disparities, nationalism, ego clashes, audience psychology, and the tension between popular appeal and artistic value—on the evolution of theater. A thought-provoking work, it sheds light on the complex and often overlooked aspects that have shaped the journey of Bengali theater, making it an invaluable resource for readers and researchers alike.
